VOLUNTEER

Have you ever considered volunteering ? We need TDH Certified First Responders (ECA, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P) As well as Firefighters. Experience is preferred but not necessary. We will provide equipment and training. If you have free time and have thought about it, please come by and talk to us. Be a contributing part to the community.

What is a volunteer?

Someone who gives their time, free of charge, to help others. A volunteer Firefighter is on a completely seperate and higher level than that. It is not just about running to fires and medical calls. There is much more to it than that. There are many hours of training one must attend if you have any hope of being a competent volunteer. Especially in this line of work. You could easily get injured or killed if you do not know what you are doing. There are many aspects to this, not merely manning a hose and putting out a simple grass fire. Not to mention, getting out of bed for those middle of the night calls. No one is paying you to do it. You go to work the next day with little sleep, you take time away from other things in your life. But it feels good to show up, know what you're doing, accomplish a task, and maybe get a thank you from someone along the way.

VOLUNTEER:

V= Very long hours that eat into personal life

O= Offering a chance for strangers to live a little longer

L= Life which we attempt to keep ongoing

U= Unbelievable sacrifices made to always be there

N= Need to help others

T= Tough choices during Tough Conditions

E= Effort we give to every patient

E= Enduring the abuse from patients, family, and bystanders as well as the small complaints that may or may not need our help

R= Realizing that our pay is pride and the fact that we changed a life.

Why should I volunteer?

There is a bumper sticker that says "What if you threw a house fire,
and no one came?"
What if your house was on fire in the middle of the night, but only 2 people showed up to put it out? It takes a special person to be a volunteer firefighter or medic. Our community relies on its volunteers to show up. Yes, other departments back each other up, but they are not close enough. We depend on our friends and neighbors to volunteer. Firefighters are a brotherhood. We rely on our fellow team mates to be able to make the right decisions, and quite possibly, save our own life in a bad situation.

What can you do?

Come down and talk to the Chief, or any of us you happen to find at the station, drop an email, call the station. Every volunteer started somewhere with no experience. It is physically demanding work, but there are also other areas you can help as well, whether on a scene, or behind the scenes. If you feel the desire to inquire about getting involved, please don't hesitate to contact someone about it. Your community is what you make it.

Other details:
